What We Do
NursingHomesNearMe.org is a free research tool. We collect data from the federal Medicare database and turn it into clear, easy-to-read pages for every nursing home in the United States.
When you look up a nursing home on our site, you'll find:
- The facility's CMS star rating — 1 to 5 stars across four categories
- How many hours per day nurses spend with residents
- How many inspection citations the facility has received over the last five years
- Whether the facility has ever had an Immediate Jeopardy citation — the most serious finding an inspector can make
- What nursing home care costs in that state
- The five nearest nursing homes so you can compare
All of this comes from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). We don't change it, guess at it, or let anyone pay to improve their numbers.
Why We Built This
Finding a nursing home for a parent or loved one is one of the hardest things a family goes through. You have to make big decisions quickly, often during a stressful time.
We believed families deserved a place to look up honest, clear information — without ads, sponsored listings, or sales calls. So we built one.
Where Our Data Comes From
All facility data comes from the CMS Nursing Home Compare database, updated quarterly. The current dataset is from March 2026.
The composite quality score on each page is calculated by NursingHomesNearMe.org using a weighted formula based on CMS ratings, staffing data, and compliance history. This is not an official CMS metric — it's our own comparison tool.
Cost of care figures come from the CareScout/Genworth Cost of Care Survey, 2025.
What We Don't Do
- We don't accept payment from nursing homes to improve their rankings.
- We don't run ads from nursing home chains or referral services.
- We don't sell your information or share it with lead generation companies.
- We don't make placement recommendations for individual families.
